Goodbye to all that: Eight years of George Bush cartoons (+pics)

Right, it’s the start of December, so now we can truly, if not exactly safely, say that the festive season is almost upon us, like a gigantic, slobbering & rabid turkey (with a standing army of resentful sprouts.)

Also, you know that Santa and his elves have you in their sniper sights, when the Washington Post and other papers come out with their yearly Dave Barry column of odious Christmas gifts. (My favourite this year: the garden zombie sculpture.)

Of course, with Thanksgivings now yet another indigestion past and the Dickensian debaucheries looming, we can’t escape thoughts of all those past, present and future ghosts that so enrich, enliven and alarm us on a daily basis.

Which reminded me a short while ago of all those poor cartoonists who now will have to say goodbye to Bush and Cheney and the eight, very fat years of failed policies and broken promises. It is, of course, always possible that the Obama presidency will offer the same kind of rich pickings for our cartoon makers but, as his opponents constantly told us, we don’t know enough about the guy to tell – and with Bush we sure as Hell did.

Anyway, so here’s my very own preemptive festive strike, the first of a two part column of some of my favourite George Bush cartoons; these first nine all drawn by the English Guradian’s chief cartoonist, Steve Bell. One for each year of the Bush presidency

1) 2000

2) 2001

3) 2002

4) 2003

5) 2004

6) 2005

7) 2006

8) 2007

9) 2008

Right, anything but a sentimental journey, to be honest – and yet: To be continued (here).

[...] Still, we’ve just celebrated Thanksgiving and we’re heading for that famous manger now, so why not celebrate the ending of the noxious Bush presidency? Two days ago, I started with a series of cartoons, drawn by the English Guardian’s Steve Bell; you can see those here. [...]
