Tony Blair almost shot down by the Israeli Air Force: Imagine all the Arabs in the Middle East, dancing in the street, crying, ‘Long live the Israeli army!’
Well, this one is quite amusing:
Tony Blair came within moments of being killed when two Israeli fighter aircraft threatened to shoot down a private jet taking him to a Middle East conference in the belief that it might have been staging a terrorist attack.
You know, not many people would have argued with this original assessment if they had indeed downed the Blair plane.
It’s funny though: Most people who do see Tony Blair as a war criminal and as one of the two most deadly terrorists on earth (the other one being Bush, of course) would normally not be great fans of Israel and its army.
It would have made for quite surreal scenes if the news that Tony Blair’s plane had been shot done (and that a slightly overdone but very crisp ex-Prime Minister had met his Maker) had spread around the world.
People in Gaza, in Baghdad, Kabul – but also in London and other Western cities, no doubt – gathering in euphoric triumph, praising the God of their choice for this long-awaited deliverance. Moreover, people who would normally and almost routinely call for the destruction of Israel would now cheer wildly for the brave and sharp-shooting chaps of the Israeli Air Force.
For a short moment admittedly, Tony Blair, doing his Icarus thing, would, by dying in this way, have done more to reconcile Arabs and Israelis than he could ever have done alive.
